the pokemon

pokemon of the area and how to obtain them
around the island, pokemon from all generations native, including alolan forms. shiny pokemon are attainable any time pokemon are generated for you. this is determined by a random number generator ranging from 1 to 75, where numbers 71-75 result in a shiny pokemon.

starting with pokemon

a student may bring anywhere from 0-2 pokemon to the academy and faculty can bring up to 3 pokemon. whereas some may start fresh and not bring any at all, others take full advantage of the pokemon maximum. there are, however, limitations to the pokemon you may bring. using veekun as reference for pokemon staging, freshmen may only bring baby and basic pokemon. sophomores and juniors may bring one stage one pokemon and a baby/basic pokemon. seniors may bring two stage one pokemon or any of the stages below it. due to their wealth of experience, graduate students can bring one stage two or any of the stages below it, and faculty may bring any stage pokemon. this information can be found in the application template under "premade pokemon", as well.

university pokemon

after being accepted or hired by kleur academy, your first stop will be at the registrar where you will check in and receive your university assigned pokemon. you have two options: you may either fill out a personality test and be assigned a random pokemon based on your results, or you may pick from the pre-generated registrar set. if being assigned a pokemon by personality test, you have the right to turn it down if you're not completely satisfied by your result and pick from the set instead. note: you will not be able to receive your registrar pokemon until you have completed your claims.

other pokemon

it is possible that pokemon may be given out as prizes in events, promotions, or academy related activities. these may be listed as definite prizes or be awarded randomly, so make sure to keep an eye out for announcements and updates. pokemon may also be encountered two different ways: you may request an encounter or staff will initiate in encounter in an open, active thread. you may have one encounter thread per character. these take place off-campus and away from downtown. this encounter thread includes swarms and tasks but excludes staff-initiated encounters.

note: staff generated and requested encounters can result in a pokemon appearing, a one-post random event, or reward for accomplishing a task unless an item is used which guarantees a pokemon or item.

experience

evolution and moves

evolution

evolution occurs in a unique format here on prismatic. there are three types of evolutions: evolution by experience via battling, contests, and rare candies, happiness evolutions via interactions with pokemon and poffins, and item evolutions including pokemon requiring an evolution stone, an item upon trading, and any evolution not fitting in the previous two category. any of the evolutions are possible as rewards or by purchasing the appropriate item in the site store so non-competitive majors may still evolve their pokemon.

experience

experience is received for partaking in battles and contests or by using rare candies. pokemon requiring experience to evolve will require five points. character-character battles reward two points for partaking, wild pokemon battles reward one point, and each rare candy is worth two points. evolution can be accomplished by any combination of these experience sources.

happiness

happiness works in a similar fashion, except ten are required for a pokemon to evolve. each post including a detailed interaction with a pokemon will count as one point of happiness for that pokemon. these happiness points cannot all be obtained in one individual thread- these points must be spread across at least two threads. happiness points can also be achieved by feeding your pokemon poffins. each poffin yields one happiness point.

moves

your pokemon may use any of its known moves during a thread. premade pokemon have a moveset consisting of four moves that can be added on to when at the academy to an eventual maximum of 6 moves. these premade moves may be any move the pokemon can learn by leveling up under the level of twenty-five with one egg or tm move (for basics), under the the level thirty-five with one egg or tm move (for stage ones), or under the level of fifty with two egg or tm moves (for stage twos). moves can later be bought through the site shop or learned through winning competitions or, in some cases, as reward for participating in events. pokemon gained through encounters or hatching may have a wider array of moves including egg moves and those acquired over the designated level caps.

competition rules

battle (+items) and contest rules

battle rules

members may battle each other of their own accord with little to no staff intervention. this is accomplished with the following guidelines and warnings: please consider establishing beforehand who the winner will be. if you prefer to let things play out ic, please be mindful of seniority, strength of the moves being used, pokemon/trainer experience, and the stage of the pokemon relative to yours among other factors that would normally influence a battle. if the players cannot decide on a winner, but would like it to be predetermined, feel free to post a request and a staff member will randomly generate the results.

it is also suggested, assuming you don't predetermine a winner, that you use a five-hit-you're-out rule as an endpoint so the battle will not drag on. this is not a hard and fast rule, but know that if battles are prolonged with little to no development that staff may intervene and cut the battle short with no reward. this is not to discourage well developed battles (just the opposite- even!)- we merely do not want to encourage any stubborness when it comes to win/loss. just remember, winning isn't everything; battle prizes are rewarded for creativity and character development as well.

for all battles- predetermined winner or not- your pokemon can only dodge three times per thread and all cannot happen in a row. you may also only use one offensive and one non-offensive move per post. (offensive moves are all attacks that deal damage, non-offensive moves are any moves that don't deal damage, such as growl, sand-attack, etc.)

when starting a battle, please post the information of the pokemon you are battling with. this is to prevent confusion if tms are bought or evolution happens mid-thread to keep things clear for everyone involved. staff will also handle any complaints regarding battles. if you believe your opponent is being unfair or not observing the rules, or otherwise feel uncomfortable talking to them, please let us know. battles are supposed to be quick, fun, and easy to do! if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

ITEMS - - despite covering the topic of item usage and its practicality quite heavily in combat classes, academy protocol restricts the use of items in or before battle. this is largely to discourage the use of unapproved items developed by overzealous research majors wishing to test their products.

students are granted an unlimited number of pokeballs and can purchase or acquire evolution stones and other exclusive items while at the academy.

contest rules

on this site, contests function specifically on one performance round only. the contest is to be evaluated with an emphasis on post quality and creativity, focused on the use of appealing move combinations or unique execution of moves. each contestant will only get one chance to impress the judges, so remember to give it your all. there will be one overall winner, but will additionally be rewarded with various ribbons based on the individual performance including but not limited to: "best in creativity" or "most chemistry". even if you lose, it is possible to still be awarded a ribbon and provided a reward for participation. do your best and get inventive!

staff will initially start a sign-up for a contest for any budding coordinators interested. official school contests might have requirements for participants, but unofficial contests are open to everyone, even non-competition majors! you may only be a part of one contest at a time, one character per contest. any members who are not participating in the contest may sign up to get a chance to be a member judge! you will get a pm if chosen, to keep member judges anonymous. keep in mind, staff will monitor member participation in judging and if it becomes apparent that there is clear bias, that particular member will be banned from participation in the judge panel of future contests.

the performance post must be placed in the dedicated contest thread. you are required to use at least three distinct pokemon moves, though the use of props, costumes, lighting and music is welcome and even encouraged. while there isn't a wordcount for the performance post, long posts are welcome. use this as a chance to flex those imagery muscles! you only get one chance to impress the judges. the post must be completed before the end date, otherwise you will be considered disqualified.

pokemon breeding

how it works and hatching eggs

breeding system

in order to breed your pokemon, you must use the form on this thread and post a request. a character must have at least fifteen posts before being able to breed their pokemon. breeding pokemon must be of the same egg group and each pokemon has a breeding cool-down based. more rules on the breeding cool down, how egg stats are determined, and how to fill out the breeding application can be found in the breeding center thread linked above.

eggs

eggs can be obtained a variety of ways, namely by way of reward in an event or by breeding.

when you receive an egg, please post in the egg center to track your egg posts. staff will place the egg in your character pc and designate the number of posts needed to hatch the egg. once you reach that number, you may post in the request-a-staff thread with a link to your egg center post as well as a link to your pc. staff will then remove the egg from your pc and replace it with a pokemon of that rarity. you may have multiple eggs at a time, but you must differentiate between them.

egg posts can be in any number of threads, as long as it includes an interaction with the egg within the post. the number of posts are determined by a pokemon's egg step cycle and will be determined for you by a staff member.
