what's that ?
what would you like to do ?
a bird? a plane...?
a bird. big bird.
a cry rips through the air and, as if out of nowhere, glowing light trails behind a body propelling itself gracefully above. what was likely only moments stretches on for an eternity as elegant wings carry the fire bird further and further. higher than even mount mosaic, the creature makes its way steadily across the island before disappearing as only a figment of your imagination. with it, the rainbow disappears without a trace.
inside its glass case, the feather so carefully preserved as a symbol of the island's prosperity trembles slightly. those who see the legendary bird, wherever they were, whatever they were doing, are certain not to forget it anytime soon and leave the experience feeling blessed.

madison was in the park with donner and blitzen, throwing a rubber ball for the two to fetch. it was humid and hot, but the electric-types had a lot of energy to run off. as the sun set, it became slightly more tolerable, and as the manectric and shinx fought over the ball, she plopped down on the grass, glancing up at the clouds. a gyrados, a voltorb... the clouds drifted lazily across the blue sky.
then everything went silent.
madison shot up, whistling for her pokemon, but something above caught her eye. a bird, tiny in the sky, but illuminated by heavenly light crossed the expanse. madison gasped, her jaw dropping. was that... ho-oh?
donner yipped, bringing her back to earth. the legendary disappeared, the rainbow being it fading back to blue. "did you see that, boy!?" she squealed, childish in her excitement over the incredible experience. this was a once in a lifetime encounter, and madison could never forget something like it.
the birds in the park returned to their previous sunset song, and blitzen nudged her hand. "fine, i'll throw it one more time!" she laughed, tossing the ball for the two pokemon and looking back up at the sky.

I am dented by the skies, they keep me up at night
So that was this island's guardian spirit.
It went without saying that Ariadne had grown up with the deities that protected each island in Alola. It was with both respect and total acceptance that the Tapu spirits were built into an Alolan's daily life. They were special and everyday at the same time.
Out here though, people referenced mystical pokemon far less, Ari thought. They didn't talk about the guardian spirits of the region as if they'd ever actually see them. Ari had taken that in her stride until this stormy, sultry afternoon as the sunlight finally broke through the clouds...
It felt like a gift, that Ari happened to have been looking up at the sky at the right time. If she hadn't, the beautiful fire bird could easily have escaped her notice. But Ari held her breath until Ho-Oh was gone and, when it was, touched her hand to her breastbone and the heart that beat behind it.
This was why she had faith.

am i coming out of left field?
It was rare for a storm to be bad enough for Ciro to be talked into shelter, but this one had Sayre all in a fuss. Alder had been happy to take her place around his shoulders while the espeon instead pressed herself as far away from the violent pattering of rain on cement as she could manage. Resting in an alcove in the city while he waited for the moment to pass, Ciro finally began to frown instead of speaking in soothing tones to the eeveelution. Just as he was starting to think the whole day was going to be washed away by summer rain, sunlight broke through the clouds.
There was no hesitation. He started to move, eyes up in the clouds more than where he was going. When he saw it, the man nearly tripped.
"Look. Look look look-" His sneakers made an awful sound as they slid across the wet cement, but it didn't stop him from pointing towards it, desperate for Alder and Sayre both to see it. The dratini's face was practically pointed in the direction he was pointing, head just over his shoulder, and the creature crooned softly.
Whether or not his espeon had seen the same view, he couldn't tell as he felt her slide past him, edging up against his leg on her way to take the lead while she could.
Arm slowly falling to his side, Ciro took a glance around him before he stumbled forward after Sayre. Maybe he was just more homesick than he'd realized.

niq doesn't let it go unnoticed though. the espurr, his dead, creepy gaze turning towards the window, opens the window telepathically, eyes glowing. remi is roused by this and he takes the earbuds out, hearing the deafening cry of something coming from outside.
getting up to peek out the window, he notices a giant golden bird flying over the mountain. "whoa, niq, that's the biggest bird i've ever seen!" he exclaims, looking at it in awe, an awe that he can't really describe. "don't wanna think about how big its shits are though. imagine cleaning that up, niq. imagine."

The real question to be asked Where have I been?
What did Mikhail do to see such a marvelous sight?
Mikhail mind run amid with hundred of thoughts as he sees a golden glow fly across the sky in a streak of a rainbow behind it. It felt like an eternity that he saw anything truly beautiful in this world. It was worth the wait.
Mikhail heard of the legends of Ho-oh, who hasn't? But Mikhail in that moment before the flying sun Pokemon flew out of sight, Mikhail pressed his hands together in a sort of prayer, and made his wish, as anybody who knows Ho-oh legends is that seeing it grants any and all wishes. Mikhail doesn't wish for money, power, or anything like that, he wishes that he could see his sister again, he misses her. And wants nothing more than to see her again.
And with that Ho-oh was gone beyond the clouds.

She's lounging near a pool in a bikini, her entirely body aglow with the sun which seems to reflect off of her porcelain-white skin and a book clasped lazily in her hands. sunglasses frame her face and her hair is a messy bun pulled haphazardly atop her head when she sees... no, hears.
it is first a frightened cry, and then an excitable squeal which morphs into staccato, high-pitched bleats curtesy of her popplio which dives in and out of pool water. she's splashing over the sides, and evelyn steals a curious glance in her direction before the blue seal-like pokemon finally strikes evelyn's exposed leg with water in a frenzied attempt to get her trainer's fullest attention. at first, she had thought something was terribly wrong. her pokemon never acted in such a manner before! sure, belle was the excitable type, but never to this extent. she'd leaned forward then, a hand raising to adjust her sunglasses towards her pokemon until she felt her body forcing her to look up.
it wasn't as though she had this instinct like some people would tell you. it wasn't as though something told her she should be doing this. no. whatever force which compelled her body to look to the heavens was unconscious and nearly supernatural by nature; the clouds acting as a magnet which pulled her eyes in its direction not by mere coincidence or instinctual feeling, but a feeling as unwavering and unavoidable as the physical properties their world abided by. and it's only then that she sees it, and she fathoms that perhaps, perhaps it was the power of this puppeteer which had controlled her marionette body in such a manner.
she gasps. and then she stares. motionless, soundless, as the being seems to just float past on wings as magnificent as its legacy. a ho-oh.
she had heard the tales. the fables, the legends, the stories of the mighty ho-oh, and how one was supposed to make a wish in that very moment for the opportunity to meet this illusive pokemon came once in a lifetime. but though that familiar mantra (make a wish, make a wish!) from her childhood played in her subconscious, it was difficult for her mind to catch up to what was happening.
her fingers which had moved her glasses off of her face quivered, and then she smiled something great and magnificent. and when her mind finally came to, her hand knit through her hair and she squeezed her eyes shut.

the summer storms had samir feeling nostalgic. castelia had a much milder climate, but living on hueport had made him start thinking more and more of his childhood island home. some of his pokemon seemed less fond of the rain, and though he'd try to get them all to participate in a training session in the rain, most of them were all huddled under the small awning of the rest stop. the only ones willing to venture out was his dewpider and his precious sumayya. it wasn't really as if the poor cascoon had a choice, held snugly under samir's arm, but she'd been the only one who'd shown any sign of willingness when he mentioned training.
hoping it might inspire his other pokemon to join instead of watching warily, safe from the rain, he had the cascoon and the dewpider start sparring, though he focused much more on encouraging his cascoon. he'd known her as a small wurmple, when she'd been too afraid to battle, and it warmed his heart to see her now. "you've got this! poison sting, sumayya! and focus on dodging, nabil," he called out, taking note that the rain was starting to lessen. it wasn't long before the sun finally managed to pierce through the dark clouds, and grey made its way to a clear blue, and samir picked his cascoon up in a victorious pose -- just as he sees it.
no. hears it, before he sees it. a clear note that sings through the air, announcing its presence before the large creature flies across the sky. samir almost drops sumayya, and instead hugs her to his chest as he watches it sweep overhead. entranced by the sighting and the rainbow, he stares into the sky until they both disappear. for a second, he doubts himself, but he knows what he saw, and looking around at the awed silence around him, he's rooted in his certainty. childhood legends run through his head, the ones he'd always cast aside as nothing but stories, but he can't help but wonder ...

you're alive and have a soul
"calming, isn't it?" piper hums to the piplup at her side. the two sat in stillness and silence as the rain pounded the ground around the apartments tiny patio. the book on the students lap had long since been abandoned, the pages crinkling slightly around the edges as the damp air seeped into them. instead, her brown eyes followed the delicate reflective drops as they plummeted from the sky as if she were in a trance. only her piplup's sudden chirp brought her back to reality. she cocked her head curiously, shooting him an inquisitive glance. "what is it?"
the penguin pokemon certainly seemed ruffled. slowly, the rain began to let up and piper felt disappointment grip her with just the gentlest of squeeze before easing into acceptance. there went her peaceful meditation. dill still seemed quite on edge which was unusual for the usually peppy pokemon. so caught up in his odd behavior, the brunette nearly missed the next sequence events that she would surely kick herself over for days to come had she been so oblivious. a distinct sound broke through the calm of the air, prompting her gaze to slide back to the sky that danced with the image of a rainbow.
her mouth opened in a gasp that never came. her piplup began to hop up and down excitedly, flapping his wings as if eager to take flight and follow the majestic creature even if he knew the attempt was futile. was that- was that what she thought it was? her mind groped for any sort of logical explanation only to come up empty. she supposed, just for the day, that she could believe in fate and fairy tales. piper's mouth shut with an audible "click" of her teeth just as the bird disappeared from sight. incredible. "how is it, bud," her voice was barely above a whisper, "that the most mundane days can give the greatest thrills." the book, in all her distraction, had slid off her lap and lay discarded on the ground, soaking up the water for the porch just as she had intended to do with knowledge for tomorrow's test. damn. she sure hoped she aced it now.
